Right after students complete their 10+2 education system, meaning they finish their 12th exams, they aim to secure admission to some top, renowned institutes. Every year, millions of students across the country prepare for a variety of entrance exams that open doors to some of the most prestigious institutions in fields like engineering, medicine, law, management, and design.

    The Top Entrance exams in India are the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical sciences, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) for degree programs, and the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for legal education.     Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main

    The JEE Main is one of the most significant national-level engineering entrance exams in India. It is conducted by the NTA for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech) at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other centrally funded technical institutions.

    Dates

    JEE Main is conducted twice a year, typically in January and April. The registration process begins a few months before the examination, and candidates can appear in one or both sessions; the best score is considered for ranking purposes.

    Eligibility

    Candidates must have passed or be appearing in the Class 12 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. There is no age limit, but candidates can attempt the exam a maximum of three times in consecutive years.

    Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced

    The JEE Advanced is the second stage of the JEE process and is conducted under the guidance of the IITs. It is considered one of the most challenging engineering entrance examinations in India. A valid score in JEE Advanced Exam allows admission to the Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s, and Dual Degree programs offered by the IITs.

    JEE Advanced is held once a year, usually in May, after the completion of JEE Main. Only the top candidates (based on the JEE Main results) are eligible to appear for this examination. The exam is conducted in a computer-based format across multiple centres in India and abroad.

    Eligibility

    To appear for JEE Advanced, candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 qualifiers of JEE Main. They must have passed the Class 12 examination (or equivalent) in the preceding year or the current year with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each candidate is allowed a maximum of two consecutive attempts.

    National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG)

    The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is one of the Top Entrance Exams for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical and dental courses (MBBS/BDS) in India. Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), NEET is the sole entrance test for admission to government and private medical colleges across the country.

    NEET-UG is conducted once every year, generally in the month of May. The registration process begins in January or February, and results are typically announced within six weeks of the examination.

    Eligibility

    Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects. They must be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission. The upper age limit is 25 years for general category students (with a 5-year relaxation for reserved categories).

    Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG)

    The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduates (CUET-UG), conducted by the NTA, is a centralised entrance examination for admission to undergraduate programs offered by central, state, and deemed universities across India.

    CUET-UG is conducted once annually, usually between May and June. The registration process typically starts in February or March, and the examination is held in multiple phases across various subjects and languages.

    Students who have completed or are appearing for Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board are eligible to apply. There is no specific age limit, though candidates must meet the age criteria (if any) prescribed by the participating universities.

    Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

    The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) for admission to undergraduate (BA LL.B.) and postgraduate (LL.M.) law programs. It is among the most prestigious law entrance examinations in India

    CLAT is conducted once every year, typically in December, for admission to programs commencing in the following academic year. The application process begins around August or September.

    Eligibility

    Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). There is no upper age limit, though candidates must meet the institutional requirements of the participating NLUs.

    Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT)

    The BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) is an online entrance exam conducted by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, for admission to its integrated first-degree programs in Engineering, Sciences, and Pharmacy offered at Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses.

    Dates

    BITSAT is conducted annually, usually in May or June, and is held over multiple days to allow candidates flexibility in selecting exam dates. The registration process begins in January.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must have passed the Class 12 examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (or Biology for pharmacy) and a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology, with at least 60% marks in each subject individually.

    National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam

    The NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs in design, fashion technology, and management. It assesses candidates on creativity, design aptitude, and general awareness related to fashion and trends.

    Dates

    The NIFT entrance exam is held once every year, typically in February, with applications opening in November or December of the previous year. The examination consists of two stages: the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

    Eligibility

    For undergraduate programs (B.Des and B.F.Tech), candidates must have passed or be appearing for Class 12 from a recognised board. The upper age limit is 24 years (with relaxation for reserved categories). There is no specific stream restriction for design programs.

    Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE)

    The VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) for admission to its B.Tech programs at campuses located in Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati. The exam evaluates candidates on their understanding of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and English.

    Dates

    VITEEE is held once annually, usually between April and May. The application process commences in November or December, and results are typically declared within a few weeks of the examination.

    Eligibility

    Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology, securing at least 60% aggregate marks (50% for reserved categories). The candidate should be born on or after 1st July 2003 to be eligible for admission.

    National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)

    The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA) for admission to undergraduate architecture programs (B.Arch) in India. It evaluates candidates’ aptitude in architectural design, drawing, aesthetic sensitivity, and critical thinking.

    Dates

    NATA is conducted in multiple sessions annually, typically between April and July. Candidates can appear in one or more sessions, and the best score among the attempts is considered for admission purposes.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They must secure at least 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination to be eligible for admission to B.Arch programs.
